Bangkok Contest Winner and Frame Updates!

After reading about 400 comments from you guys we compiled a list of changes, tweaks and features that will be added based on your feedback.

Good news, all the design features and component placement works. I just built one and it was super easy! Considering I was building an unrefined prototype. The final version will be a pleasure to build!

Here’s a full list of changes, features and tweaks.

  • Added 20x20mm holes on the rear shelf
  • Added holes under the shelf for additional support
  • Fixed the issue of the arms not sliding out easily. Different tolerances in the carbon made the front arms stuck
  • Added small holes to hold down the battery cable
  • Increased the holes for the fc screws to 5.75mm so now the screws can be added/removed without removing the bottom plate
  • added a cutout to make more room for the battery cable on a 4in1 ESC
  • Slimmed down the center plate to save weight
  • added standoffs to add support for the top plate
  • Tighten up the tolerance in the arm screw holes. Final version will be rock solid
  • Added slots in the top plate for “hot dog” style battery mount
  • Changed the cutout in the HD camera mount to fit a PROton style GoPro mount
  • Add a cutout hole on the bottom plate to save weight
  • Move the mini camera mount hole back 2mm

People didn’t like the style of the old arms so I made them closer to the Tokio arms. I think they will be much more durable.

Right now the arms are 4.5mm T700. We will test and see if we need to go up to 5mm.

The final version of the frame the arms will be chamfered.

We changed up the top plate to add slots for “hot dog” style battery mounting. Added flares on the top plate to increase the strength where the slots are cut. The slots double as nubs to help keep the velcro strap from sliding around in the normal style battery mounting.

Some holes were added in the bottom and top plate so a 25mm standoff can add additional support for the top plate. Decided not to put the support from the center plate using an 18mm standoff. Better to have just one size standoff.

Center plate has been thinned out and slight slot cut in the rear to make more room for the battery cable.

Flight controller screw holes have been enlarged to 5.75mm on the bottom plate and arms. Now screws can be added/removed without taking the bottom plate and arms off.

Holes were cut to help hold down the battery cable. It’s offset to help make room for the RX and rear facing GoPro mount.

Foam landing gear will be included to stick on the bottom of the arms.

A simple Immortal-T mount has been added. This needs to be tested.

The frame is about 145g now. Which for me is fine but people want lightweight frames.

Just for reference, the best selling freestyle frame of all time the ImpulseRC Alien is about 145g also. I think that’s why it flies so well.

I will shave some weight and try to get the frame to around 135g

Thanks to everyone who left comments, gave feedback and entered in the contest. Your feedback really helps! I wish I had more frames to give out but these prototypes cost nearly $200 each to make so we couldn’t get that many made.

To be fair to everyone I used a Youtube random comment picker to choose the winner.

Check out the video HERE for the contest winner.

Pre-orders!

Good news is the all the ideas and technical aspects are good to go. Now we just need to test the durability, which we will be doing in the coming weeks.

Since the Bangkok will be a very expensive frame to produce, first batch will be limited. Sign up on the Bangkok product page to be notified when pre-orders will begin.
